Volvo is inserting a dash of the past as it moves into the future with the brand’s Concept Coupe Hybrid, which will be officially unveiled at the upcoming 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show. The Concept Coupe marks a new era for Volvo, which was purchased by China’s Geely in 2009.

The Concept Coupe’s design is reportedly a harbinger of Volvo’s new styling direction. The Concept Coupe mixes elements of the brand’s iconic P1800 coupe of the 1960s, along with more modern aesthetics, creating a sleek, angular and low-slung auto that Volvo hopes will appear to nostalgia buffs as well as new car buyers.

Outside, the Concept Couple features a low hood and roofline, and 21-inch wheels. Inside, you’ll find aged wood, a leather dash, and a gearshift lever cut from crystal. A large center touchscreen interacts with the digital gauges and head-up display.

Under the hood, the Concept Coupe has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with both supercharging and turbocharging, and an electric motor on the rear axle. Volvo says the resulting technology gives the Concept Coupe an impressive output of about 400 horsepower.
