Veronique Leroy summer 2014 collection was a lovely surprise. Not planning on going to the show, and deciding on it last minute, I can now say it was a fantastic treat. This season, the designs were drawn from military and uniform inspirations. But not in a rigid, tough kind of way, rather in a softer suppleness and subtle directness. A mix of contrasting fabrics like denim, terry cloth cotton and vinyl came together in a eye catching graphics like “wood grain” and rippling waves. Skirts were long and mini with both lengths offering edgy and flattering cuts. Femininity was clearly present, with a strong feeling of structure and confidence. Color palette was in season’s reoccurring white and beige but did not take away from the powerful and radical elegance that was clearly the collection’s driving force.
