When the Cadillac Touring 6 sedan or CT6 as it is badged shows up in showrooms in March it will sell for considerably less than the cars with which Cadillac executives hope it competes. Starting at $53,495 for the two wheel drive 2.0L Turbo version and increasing up to $64,395 as the base price for the 400hp 3.0L twin turbo with all wheel drive, even the priciest CT6 will be considerably less than the BMW 7 series, Mercedes S Class and Audi A8 all of which have base prices of over $80,000.

The question becomes, can it be competitive in terms of performance, comfort and luxury at this price?

Johan de Nysschen, president of Cadillac certainly thinks so. “The CT6 is an entirely new approach to prestige luxury, adding driving dynamics and technology while reducing the bulk of traditional large sedans. With the CT6, Cadillac has a competitive edge: our use of advanced lightweight construction and innovative technology, it is prestige luxury reimagined.”

Technologies on the CT6 sedan include its rigid, lightweight architecture which provides a foundation for what Cadillac claims will be segment-challenging agility. It will also feature active-on-demand all-wheel drive, active rear steering and Magnetic Ride Control, as well as a Rear Camera Mirror, Enhanced Night Vision technology and a 34-speaker Bose® Panaray® audio system. In addition to three gas engines at launch, the CT6 will introduce a plug-in hybrid model later in the year.

Of course, the proof is in the driving and we will let you know how America’s premiere luxury sedan stacks up against its rivals when we have had the chance to get behind the wheel.
