Fore! Los Cabos’ world-class golf courses are back in the swing of things after sustaining minor storm damage from Hurricane Odile on September 14.

But the biggest news from Mexico’s golf capital is the grand opening of two outstanding new courses: the Quivira Golf Club, designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, which opened October 9, and Diamante’s El Cardonal, which becomes Tiger Woods’ very first completed 18-hole course when it officially opens December 16. These two new venues will bring the destination’s total course count to 14.

Cabo’s leading golf resorts completed restoration and began reopening in excellent condition on October 1, with only minor erosion, cactus loss and sand intrusion.

The federal government has made the recovery of Los Cabos, Mexico’s third most popular tourism destination, a top priority. Los Cabos includes Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo and the 20-mile ‘Corridor’ between them, attracts nearly 2 million visitors per year.

“The response from the federal government has been beyond incredible,” said Greg Tallman, director of golf at Cabo del Sol, of the government’s $5 million recovery campaign. “This is the playbook for how to deal with a natural disaster.”

The Mexico Tourism Board is happy to report that approximately 22,000 hotel rooms in Los Cabos are expected to open in time for Christmas, including the exclusive beach resorts of Hacienda Encantada, Las Ventanas al Paraiso, Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Golf and Spa Resort, Playa Grande, Marina Fiesta, four Pueblo Bonito Resorts and Spas properties (Sunset Beach, Pacifica, Rose and Los Cabos), and all five hotels in the beautiful Grand Solmar Land’s End resort portfolio.
