1965-single-harvest-port-tfPort house Taylor Fladgate has released its 1965 Single Harvest Tawny Port in U.S., and announced plans to release a 1966 Tawny Port in January of 2016. A 1964 version was released last year.

Taylor Fladgate boasts some of the most extensive reserves of very old cask-aged wine of any producer in Portugal, and is the leading Port brand in the U.S. market. It consistently earns top accolades and often achieves the extremely rare “perfect” 100-Point score.

“Each Single Harvest Tawny is a Port from a single year which age to full maturity in seasoned oak casks,” explains David Guimaraens, winemaker for Taylor Flagate, “Each represents a unique piece of wine history.

The 1965 version is available in limited quantities and retails for about $300 a bottle.

Here are the tasting notes for Taylor Fladgate 1965 Single Harvest Tawny Port:

On the nose, the wine displays delicate oaky aromas, walnuts, figs, demerara sugar and hints of caramel intertwined with spicy, cigar box notes. The palate is silky smooth, with mocha and honeyed notes on the entry. Crisp acidity carries the wine to its long and richly textured finish.

Food Pairings: Figs, almonds, pecorino, apple pie, Comté, Cornish game hens, pecan pie or crème brûlée.
