The Alberta government will be making tracks at the Vancouver Olympics with its luxury train that will whisk passengers to Whistler and back for $499 a head — about $1,000 for a package with all the bells and whistles.

Premier Ed Stelmach, flanked by cabinet ministers including Cindy Ady and Lindsay Blackett, was on hand this morning in North Vancouver at the unveiling of the Alberta Train — the gold standard of the Rocky Mountaineer fleet which the Alberta government has leased for 16 days during the Games.

The train features six cars with second-level viewing areas and two lounge cars. Contained within the cars Alberta has leased are a library and bar, and all spaces are appointed with wood panelling and both cloth and leather seats. – from Vancouver
