St. Regis has announced the planned 2017 opening of its first-ever polo resort, The St. Regis Dubai Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club.

When open, the 136-room, 24 bungalow retreat will be the centerpiece of a six-million square-foot equestrian sports complex in Dubai.  In addition, there will be a further 138 residential villas within the resort, alongside a polo club, a state-of-the-art polo academy and a riding school with 500 stables.

Guests will also have access to the polo academy, which will offer a wide range of programs including dressage, riding and show jumping for riders of all ages. The resort will also be home to four world-class polo fields which will reinforce Dubai’s role on the global polo circuit.

For the past decade, St. Regis has been actively committed to championing the sport of polo,  expanding its polo presence in nearly as many destinations, hosting spirited polo matches and marquee events in everywhere from Abu Dhabi, the United Kingdom and Sonoma Valley, to Bangkok, Greenwich, CT and Singapore.  St. Regis’ polo events have attracted a glamorous group of followers over the years, with attendees including HRH Prince Harry, Delfina Blaquier, Princess Beatrice, Valentino, Peter Brandt, Olivia Chantecaille, Olivia Palermo, Karolina Kurkova, Jessica Stam, Jason Wu, Jessica Hart, Michelle Harper and Joely Richardson among many others.

We’re not shocked that the luxury brand would consider Dubai the first location for this new resort type — after all, Dubai is the land of fantastical amenities, like indoor ski ranges and man-made islands shaped like palm trees, and, given Dubai’s ties to the sport of polo, this doesn’t seem like such a far departure from the norm.

What do you think? Will you visit this new resort when it opens?
