Our Sunday destination spotlight is on The Plaza, the historic luxury hotel in the heart of New York City. Overlooking Central Park, the Plaza is surrounded by Fifth Avenue, the arts, endless shopping, amazing dining and lively nightlife. The Plaza, which opened in 1907, has emerged from a recent $450 million remodel, and the new elegance is apparent. While traditions remain, such as the grandeur of the Beaux Arts décor and the ambience of the legendary Oak Room and Oak Bar, new destinations at The Plaza include The Champagne Bar and The Rose Club, as well as an interior Tranquility Garden.

The Plaza offers butler service 24 hours a day, a service perfect for any Eloise. It is also the first hotel in the world to offer in-room iPads for guests to control their entire hotel experience. At the touch of a screen, you can order dining, make restaurant reservations, communicate directly with the concierge, request wake-up calls, and check airline schedules and print boarding passes. Talk about convenient!

The hotel also includes The Shops at The Plaza, featuring luxury boutiques and fine food, as well as health and wellness facilities including a Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa, a Warren-Tricomi Salon, and The Plaza Food Hall by Todd English. Also, as part of the lobby to roof restoration, the Grand Ballroom and Terrace Room have been restored to their original grandeur. To further explore The Plaza, visit our related articles on:

Designated a New York City Landmark in 1969, The Plaza is listed on the Register of Historic Places and the only New York City hotel to be designated as a National Historic Landmark.
