Sculptural Bodice Rocker by Splinter Works Blends Art and Function

Functional art is a clever way of displaying expressive designs in your home that don’t just occupy the space, they serve a specific purpose while beautifying it. Clever designs speak about concepts and ideas, showcase results of latest technologies and compose a specific atmiosphere in the space they occupy. This is the case with the Bodice Rocker designed by Splinter Works – a unique object that can be used as a seat or it can be displayed vertically to expose its anthropomorphic sculptural form.

“Originally sculpted by Splinter Works founder and artist Matt Withington, Bodice Rocker was developed with co-founder Miles Hartwell to perform its unique trick: with a light touch, it gently rocks back and pauses mid-air, as if weightless, inciting a double-take by seeming to defy the pull of gravity. In this position it reveals the more familiar profile of a chaise longue, albeit levitating! With a second nudge it draws to the ground where you can sit and stretch out comfortably on soft padded leather.”

We’ve seen what the creative design studio can grab our attention with – take as example the Tipsy Stool or the Vessel Bathtub – but this sleek design was meant to provide a fresh perspective on our surrounding objects. Curvy and tailored to each client’s needs, the Bodice Rocker can also be fit to accommodate a taller or smaller person and also manufactured in a perfect size for the space it will occupy.
