What began as a conversation a few weeks ago on the lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is now a new weekly feature. We’re happy to debut the Pursuitist Auction Car of the Week. Our writer for this feature is Andy Reid, who has been buying, selling, and reporting on collector car auctions for 15 years. Each week, Andy will scour the auction lots and give you insights into one of the cars he feels is most extraordinary. Welcome to Pursuitist and take it away, Andy. –HLB

I thought that we should start big, and what better auction company to cover than Barrett-Jackson and their Las Vegas sale.

Barrett-Jackson is the best known of all the auction companies due to the size of their events, the cars they sell for record setting prices and the sheer volume of great cars they have available.

This year’s Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction is bigger and better than ever with many top tier sports and muscle cars on the block. Barrett-Jackson, unlike many collector car auctions, does not turn up its nose at more modern cars, and in fact strive to offer some of the best modern cars to go along with their classic and muscle cars. So while you’ll find the usual sixties and seventies TransAms, Mustangs, Corvettes, and Challengers, along with a spectacular 1936 Packard Eight Phaeton and even an Auburn Boattail Speedster, this week’s pick is one of the more interesting modern cars, a 2006 Ford GT.

Why am I picking a Ford GT with all the other amazing cars at the auction?

First, the Ford GT is an amazing supercar as well, without the hassles usually involved in supercar ownership. It is very fast, limited production, and easy to live with.

Second is collectability. One of the most common questions I am asked is what more cars will in the future be collectible. Well I am here to tell you that the Ford GT is definitely a future collectible, in fact it is already collectible. This example has only 55 original miles so is essentially a new car. The GT is already selling for as much as $100,000 more that it cost new and the prices are continuing to rise. The GT is the next generation of Blue Chip collector cars and if you want a brand new one this is your chance.

The car goes on the block Saturday, September 27 and is one of the star lots of the sale, so if you join the bidding, you are sure to be able to see yourself doing so on TV.

My estimate of a fair selling price for this GT is $300,000.

For more information and to bid on this car head to the Barrett-Jackson website.

Next week I will have a new pick from an upcoming auction and the results of the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas sale. That will include the sale price of the GT so we will see how close I came to predicting the sale price.
