Times Journeys, the travel program of the New York Times, announced an expansion with 21 new land based tours to more than 30 countries. Packaged tours sold on the company’s website are inspired by content in the paper. The tours feature Times journalists or hand-picked experts who, in some cases, join the tours in person.

“After the success of our initial Times Journeys program on cruises, we decided to expand our program to include land-based departures, offering participants unique insights and authentic cultural experiences to even more destinations around the globe,” said Michael Greenspon, general manager, The New York Times News Services and International.

Three trip styles are offered – Luxury, Active, and “Focus On,” an immersion program. We’re, naturally, most interested in the luxury angle. The Times has partnered with well-known luxury tour operator Abercrombie & Kent for  these journeys.

Currently, six luxury trips are offered: La Dolce Vita, which explores food and wine in Italy, three cultural trips, The Richness of Russia, The Highlights of India in High Style and China in High Style, and two African journeys, one in Kenya and Tanzania and another in Southern Africa.

Luxury trips last between 9 and 18 days and range in price from $13,500 to $17,000 per person, double occupancy.
