New Book Chronicles Marc Newson’s Design Career

Pursuitist Luxury Best Luxury Blog

There are few designers with a career like Marc Newson. He has designed everything from kitchen appliances to restaurants but is perhaps most famous for creating one of the most expensive pieces of modern furniture, the decidedly uncomfortable looking Lockheed Lounge.

Cataloguing the entire works of Newson is no easy feat but leave it to the crew at Taschen to make it happen. Marc Newson: Works is dedicatedly comprehensive guide to all things Newson, covering all of his works to date. The book features encyclopedia-style entries, arranged chronologically by categories: Furniture, Objects, Interiors and Architecture, Timepieces and Jewelry, Transport, and Unreleased Projects. There are also extended, in-depth case studies for some of Newson’s most important projects: the Kelvin40 plane, Qantas Airbus A380, Gagosian art editions, Ford 021C, Ikepod watches, and Aquariva boat. A visual index catalogues Newson’s complete works. The 610-page book also features an exclusive, in-depth interview by Louise Neri.

There are two versions, a Limited Art Edition of 100 signed copies (No. 1–100), with leather marquetry on the cover and a Micarta slip case designed by Marc Newson and Richard Allan. It sells for $6,000.

A hardcover in slipcase edition also signed by Marc Newson and limited to 1,000 numbered copies worldwide sells for $1,000 but order from our friends at UnicaHome now and they will knock 20% off the price. The book is out this fall.
