Luxury cars setting the scene this season

Rolling up to an event before passing your keys off to the valet is often the first impression you make, setting the tone for how you are perceived. From affordable compact crossovers through to extravagant luxury cars, each has a statement to make, so you need to ensure that they are speaking your language. There is certainly no shortage of options in the USA, so if a premium vehicle from the local market isn’t to your taste, you could go the classic route and buy European or be a bit more adventurous, and see what the Asian luxury segment has to offer.

It certainly doesn’t hurt to acquaint yourself with the most prestigious names on the market. You wouldn’t settle for less than Gucci dress shoes, a Louis Vuitton purse, or a Rolex wristwatch, so here are some names to be on the lookout for when shopping for a fashionable new automobile:

  • Mercedes-Benz
  • BMW
  • Porsche
  • Rolls-Royce
  • Bentley
  • Lexus
  • Jaguar
  • Aston Martin
  • Lincoln

Unlike a pair of eight-inch stilettos, you don’t need to suffer for beauty when it comes to owning a luxury vehicle. That’s not to say that many of these gorgeous machines aren’t highly impractical, but some of the best automakers in the world have mastered the art of combining the two generally disparate qualities in a seamless way. Of the various configurations, the sport utility vehicle is best suited for fitting all of this in one body.

Though they may be a bit on the heavy side in comparison to an executive sedan, this is easily remedied by slotting a potent engine, usually a turbocharged V6 or V8, under the hood. In the likes of a Mercedes-Benz SUV, this supplies more than enough power to get around town at a brisk pace or fly down the highway. But you may not feel the need to hurry, since the interior is so lavishly appointed and comfortable that driving quickly turns from a chore to a joy.

Designed with families in mind, these crossovers supply loads of cabin room, with many of the larger variants accommodating three rows of seats while still leaving enough space for a fair amount of cargo. Along the same vein, safety is paramount, so a vast suite of driver-assistance features come standard, with even more impressive tech available at extra cost, such as semi-autonomous driving systems and augmented reality displays. This is not even taking into consideration the comprehensive infotainment setups, with smartphone integration and Wi-Fi accessibility comprising the bare minimum.

All of this is wrapped in a truly gorgeous package. Just as much thought goes into the exterior design of a luxury SUV as the interior comfort and style. Many are even offered with the sportier sloping roofline of a coupe to further accentuate their attractive lines without sacrificing on height, which is one of the most confidence-inspiring aspects of this body type.

An electrifying personality

Keeping up with the latest technology is just as important as keeping up with the latest fashion trends, and when it comes to your car, this means embracing EV culture. In layman’s terms, electric vehicles are those that have abandoned the aging combustion engine in favor of pure galvanic power. The modern tech has been refined to the point that now offers significantly better performance than a gasoline power plant, both in terms of horsepower and torque as well as fuel economy.

Where once hybrids and plug-ins were seen as the bargain hunter’s choice because of their significantly better mileage figures, almost all the luxury brands have committed themselves to developing more EVs in the coming years. Some have even promised that all their future vehicles will be zero-emission models. This means that you can expect to see a lot more premium electric cars, and that doesn’t mean another disappointment like the BMW i3. Instead, we will be getting the i4, a sleek four-door to rival Tesla’s Model 3 and the Audi e-tron GT.

While the i4 doesn’t look as exciting as the i8 that was released a few years ago, the chances are it won’t be nearly as expensive. Based on the traditional styling cues we have come to know and love from the popular 3 Series, this new automobile will offer much higher outputs while getting far better mpg figures. However, miles per gallon is a bit of a misnomer since no liquid fuel will ever be consumed, and no carbon emissions produced. Naturally, they will receive all the latest tech when they release, although BMW is notorious for making shoppers pay a lot more for features than rivals offer on their base model premium choices.

However, there are a number of brands that have already released highly successful vehicles within this segment. One of the best hails from the list of Porsche models, a brand beloved by motoring enthusiasts the world over. The Taycan and it’s even more potent Turbo variant are still newcomers to the market, but they have already upset the balance of power by presenting buyers with hard-to-beat outputs – 750 hp and 774 lb-ft on the Taycan Turbo – and truly astounding 0-60 mph sprint times in the mid-two-second range.

They do all this while looking drop-dead gorgeous. There is no way they could ever be mistaken for the work of any brand but Porsche, but a number of modern or even futuristic design elements have been fused with the classic aesthetics to produce a sports car like no other. Of course, the interior is just as stylish, and loads of hyper-modern features come standard. This includes a large 16.8-inch touchscreen, heated front and rear seats, and all the safety tech you need to keep this prize stallion in pristine condition.

Look good, feel good

Whether you are shopping for a stately commuter to impress at work, a comfortable daily runabout for shopping outings, or a thrilling futuristic sports car, there is something for everyone within the luxury segment. You no longer need to settle for less than the best, and while the MSRP of these premium items is still quite restrictive, as is befitting of their status, they offer more value for money than ever before. With the evolution of social awareness, staying in vogue is about more than just looking good; it’s about doing good. But, with the latest advances in technology, especially in the automotive industry, you don’t need to feel guilty about spoiling yourself. You really can have your cake and eat it.
