Louis Vuitton Looks Back To Reveal The Cardboard Jewelry Trunk

To mark the opening of its store on 54 Avenue Montaigne in 1989, Louis Vuitton had launched a limited edition jewelry trunk which was made out of cardboard. Certainly not meant to use for travel, the monogrammed trunk was shaped to by Ben, César and Arman.

The small cardboard trunk designed by the trio for the French luxury brand was not sturdy to use for travel or carry as a handbag. It was intentionally designed to elegantly hold three pieces of costume jewelry designed for posterity. These comprised of a rectangular pin brooch “Accumulation Louis Vuitton” by Arman, a rustic pendant “Mystery Box Louis Vuitton” by Ben and a spindle brooch “Compression Louis Vuitton” by Caesar.

Produced in a limited edition of 850, with 25 signed by the three artists, the tiny commemorative trunk made a big impression with its mischievous combination of ordinary materials and exceptional craftsmanship.

Each blast-from-the-past-trunk from the house of Louis Vuitton was sized at 4.3 x 8.7 x 5.5 inches.
