When iconic names and brands like Louis Vuitton, Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin and the likes huddle up together for one of its kind project, it cannot be overlooked. Following it closely, we bring to you the latest from Louis Vuitton’s The Icon and Iconoclasts collaboration. To mark Louis Vuitton’s 160th anniversary, executive vice president Delphine Arnault, daughter of LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault, and artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière initiated ‘The Icon and the Iconoclasts: Celebrating Monogram’ project. They invited six of the world’s design pioneers, dubbed the ‘iconoclasts’ to interpret the LV monogram, the ‘icon’, for a new series of bags. One of the iconoclasts, Karl Lagerfeld has not only designed for the project but also lensed each of the iconoclasts and their finished products to feature in Harper’s Bazaar’s upcoming October issue.

Karl_lagerfeld_Christian_Louboutin_Louis_VuittonWhile the LV monogram has endured over the years as one of the world’s most widely recognised brands, the six design legends, Karl Lagerfeld, Frank Gehry, Cindy Sherman, Marc Newson, Christian Louboutin and Rei Kawakubo have re-imagined the monogram.

Christian Louboutin has shaped up a caddy, “a classic bag, the most Parisian bag” so that “you can be super glamorous. You don’t have to feel like a loser with your leeks inside your bag.” The caddy sports the same red trimmings that are seen on each and every sole designed by Louboutin. The man behind the camera for this portfolio as well as one of the six designers, Karl Lagerfeld was in the mood for a luxurious fight. Karl’s vision has taken the shape of a punching bag and a trunk to pack the same.

As a part of Louis Vuitton’s “Celebrating Monogram” project, she has created a foldout trunk complete with labeled drawers, a makeup mirror, and a stool. When asked by the Louis Vuitton team, ‘Well, what if we did a trunk? In your ideal fantasy world, what would you like?’, the American photographer and film director realized “At home in New York, I have shelves for fake eyeballs, fake nails, eyelashes, and things like that. So it became a little traveling studio in a way.”

Frank_Gehry_Louis_VuittonFrank Gehry who has recently designed the Fondation Louis Vuitton experimented with the architecture of style. He designed a bag that is essentially a rectangular box with a bit of a twist. Gehry added, “I think a curve is feminine, and it just adds a feminine touch. We made 10 variations, but they loved that one. We all did.”

Marc_Newson_Louis_VuittonMarc Newson designed a very practical backpack. Elucidating his creation, he stated, “Often my inspiration is simply to create something I personally want to use. I’d like people to use it like any other backpack, as an excellent travel companion. But not for camping, obviously.”
