Lexus is billing the CT 200h as the only sport hybrid hatchback on the market.

The CT 200h is interesting in that it probably isn’t going to compete against other luxury line models – but instead it squarely falls in with the likes of the Prius. In fact, one reviewer called it a ‘nicer, bigger, more expensive Prius’ – a notion echoed by others.

Is being compared to the Prius bad? Not at all. The CT 200h hatchback has a lot going for it. It’s a nice looking vehicle – sharp, smart, but not too radical – pretty much what you’d expect from Lexus. The vehicle handles wonderfully in low mileage, high traffic settings. It responds quickly and efficiently. We especially like the higher end premium edition. The pricing isn’t too harsh, considering it’s a Lexus. The base CT 200h starts at about $30,000.

Where does the CT 200h falter? As you would expect, power. The vehicle boasts 134 hp, and if you need to get to top speed quickly, don’t hold your breath (0-60 in 9.8 seconds). Also, while the gas mileage is good, it’s not great, getting in the low 40s. We’d hoped 50ish. We mentioned that, for Lexus, the CT 200h isn’t too expensive. But compared to a Prius, you’re playing a steep premium.

When all is said and done, the Lexus CT 200h Hybrid Hatchback is a solid auto. It really works well if you’re looking for a vehicle that gets good gas mileage, and if the lack of acceleration doesn’t affect you too much.
