The LA Auto Show and its companion event the Connected Car Expo, opened to the media yesterday, and I was there with a gaggle of other journalists to get a first hand look at the latest in automotive luxury and technology from just about every global manufacturer. From new product launches and current product upgrades to concept cars and new ideas about the overall ownership experience, there’s a lot to see at this year’s show.

If you’re in LA from the 21st through the 30th of November, head over to the convention center to see the future of automotion.

NEW LUXURY CARS

Mercedes Benz reintroduced the Maybach brand to the world. Based on the S Class Chassis, it features a V12 engine, extended wheelbase and they claim it offers the quietest cabin among ultra luxury cars.

The Bentley Grand Convertible was even grander in person, making a powerful statement about their capabilities in design and craftsmanship as a top-of-the range car manufacturer.

Land Rover debuted the new Discovery Sport which features a 240hp turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, nine-speed automatic transmission and new features like Autonomous Emergency Braking and a new touchscreen infotainment system. Pricing will begin at $37,995.

BMW continues its expansion of the M line with high performance versions of the new X5 and X6. Powered by a 567 hp M TwinTurbo V8 mated to the confident footing of xDrive, these new sports activity vehicles promise to offer M-worthy performance. Price for the X5 M starts at $99,650. The X6 M starts at $103,050.

Cadillac took the wraps off the 445 horsepower ATS V. Available in 2- and 4-door versions, both models can be ordered with either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The ATS V should give BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Lexus compact performance sedans a run for their money.

Lincoln laid out plans for its Black Label line at an exclusive event in the Hollywood Hills. Black Label products feature higher quality materials in specific design themes combined with an ownership concept that offers a plethora of benefits including concierge services, special perks and service upgrades.

Porsche displayed the new 911 Carrera GTS in both coupe and convertible form, ensuring the iconic sports car will live on for yet another generation of enthusiasts.

Jaguar announced that for the 2016 model year the F-type will be getting all wheel drive and a proper manual transmission, making what is one of the best two-seat sports cars even better.

Mazda teased us with a bit more information about the new MX5 Miata, confirming that it will feature a 2.0 direct-injection gasoline engine and 6-speed manual transmission. Sitting in the car, everything feels right about the new upgrade. I am looking forward to driving it this summer when it will be available.

The MINI Hardtop 4-door made its North American Debut. Promising all the fun with more access and convenience, it will open MINI up to a wider audience.

THE BEST OF THE CONCEPTS
Of course it wouldn’t be an auto show without some interesting concept cars giving us a peek into the future of some of our favorite automotive brands. Our favorites came from MINI, Lexus, Infiniti, Audi and of course the soon-to-be-real Maserati Alfieri.
