John Wooden, perhaps the greatest coach in college basketball history, has died at age 99.

The legendary Wooden coached the UCLA Bruins from 1948-75 and won a record 10 national championships, including seven in a row. The Bruins won an amazing 88 consecutive games from 1971-74 and 38 consecutive NCAA tournament games from 1964-74, both records.

The Indiana native was the first person to become a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and coach.

The John R. Wooden Award is given annually to the most outstanding men’s and women’s college basketball players.

After retiring in 1975 he enjoyed great success as a writer and on the speaker’s circuit.
