Jason Wu has teamed up with the global color authority Pantone on a custom shade of grey for the launch of his new fashion line.

The designer has unveiled his own shade of the color ahead of the launch of his mainline label’s sister brand ‘Grey Jason Wu’ this June. The hue, a mid silver tone, aims to invoke the familiarity of a favorite t-shirt, and was designed to perpetuate a simple and laidback vibe. It features 90 percent white hues and a hint of blue.

“Grey is my favorite color — I’ve been attracted to the color’s ease, calm elegance and warmth,” said Wu, who first announced the development of his more affordable new brand back in April. Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, described the new hue as: “A timeless grey shade that captures the collection’s unique combination of relaxed sophistication and soft warmth.”

According to the New York-based Taiwanese Canadian designer, the idea for Grey Jason Wu was inspired by his friends’ personal style and a desire to create a collection focused on chic silhouettes and playful graphics representative of his personality. He will use the project as an opportunity to collaborate with talents such as artist Hunt Slonem, whose contribution will feature in the debut collection, snippets of which have been played out on Instagram over the past few weeks, with minimalist separates, soft pleats and cashmere knitwear seemingly the order of the day.

Pantone provides professional color standards for the fashion and design industries and its shades are used by 100 million design professionals worldwide.

Grey Jason Wu will be available from June on www.greyjasonwu.com, and at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom, with pieces priced from $295 to $1,395.
