Rising above the Canadian landscape of a forested ravine in West Vancouver, House 4249 amazes with its white geometry and stylish simplicity. Designed by Vancouver-based architectural practice DGBK Architects, the modern residence celebrates both the surrounding nature and human creativity that can transform a place according to needs and wishes.

An open interior sets the pace for creating a bright and elegant atmosphere throughout, creating a seamless connection to the outdoors. Overlapping planes create a bold architectural geometry that conveys a sense of order in full contrast with the chaotic typology of the property. Technical details come to root this amazingly creative solution for the construction of this minimalist dream home:

“Both vertical and horizontal, these planes form, in a very fundamental way, the organizational structure of the uses within. Expressing simplicity, thin, floating planes of the composition required a more innovative structural solution – the first of its kind in North America. With the use of this Cross-Laminated Timber structure, the house was free to express plane profiles capable of being visually unsupported as well as cantilevers that extend farther and thinner than would otherwise be possible in steel or concrete. The erection of this pioneering CLT project in North America was completed in a mere six days, allowing the house to take form much quicker and with less disturbance on this sensitive natural site than with traditional means of framing.” House 4249 by DGBK Architects (3) House 4249 by DGBK Architects (4) House 4249 by DGBK Architects (5) House 4249 by DGBK Architects (6) House 4249 by DGBK Architects (7) House 4249 by DGBK Architects (8) House 4249 by DGBK Architects (9) House 4249 by DGBK Architects (10) House 4249 by DGBK Architects (11) House 4249 by DGBK Architects (12) House 4249 by DGBK Architects (13)
