Pursuitist Luxury Best Luxury Blog

It’s a testament to the timeless work of F. Scott Fitzgerald that particularly lavish homes get dubbed Gatsby estates. The latest to bear the name in Johannesburg, South Africa recently hit the market for 110 million rand (approximately $8.2 million).

The lavish home in the Houghton Upper area offers beautiful views over the city. The four-level home of 2,000 square meters was created by the Pellerade Design Group and took more than six years to complete. Materials were sourced from around the world including solid marble balustrades from Turkey; marble and bronze statues from Argentina; chandeliers from France, Italy and Germany.

The estate has eight bedrooms ensuite and several lavish living and dining rooms as well as a private nightclub, a spa, a library, a gymnasium, boardroom/conference facilities and both indoor and outdoor pools.

The estate features four levels, with stretches of glass to optimize the views. There is heated indoor pool, outdoor training pool, a number of reception rooms, as well as rare art and design pieces from around the world.

The Palladian architecture is meant to evoke the glamour of the Belle Epoque and the formal terraced gardens are based on the Peterhof Palace. The property boasts the latest home automation, security and surveillance technologies and environmentally-efficient features.

This property is listed with Chas Everitt International and is presented to the market fully furnished with hand-picked antiques and modern pieces that evoke the Edwardian era. It is showcased by Luxury Portfolio.
