Combining an original house and an addition, this contemporary residence in Melbourne is also located on a lot boasting two frontages. An artistic eye constructed a hallway as a bridge between the old and the new and used a courtyard to separate the two. Sharif Abraham Architects imagined a modern reflection of the original Art Deco style in both the architecture and interior design seen in the Clifton Hill House.

Comprising social living spaces, the modern volume is intended as a facade for the rear street and was interpreted in a tectonic shape. Undulating design lines sloping from the roof mirror the use of lines and material inside. Wood details adorning the ceilings and rushing down the walls to shape furniture all come from a single tree. Darker, denser grain is seen in the lower space, building up to the younger grain decorating the ceiling. Extensive use of glass floods the comfortable interiors, while one of the bathrooms mirrors light coming from the open courtyard in its reflective bronze tiles, creating a special atmosphere.
