Over the last decade, Automakers have learned that luxury does need to be limited to brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Even a brand such as Hyundai, which a decade ago was known for making cheap cars, can venture into luxury the segment.

Lately we’ve noticed an effort to put some luxe into segments that are traditionally more utilitarian. Recently, we saw this with the Ford Raptor. Now we see in it with the new Chevrolet Silverado High Country.

Chevy has taken its redesigned 2014 Silverado pickup and given it a cowboy theme – calling it the High Country – and loaded it with goodies. The new Silverado takes aim at other luxury pick ups, including the Ford F-150 King Ranch.

The High Country sports a big crew-cab with lots of chrome, including a unique new grille, side mouldings, door handles, mirrors and its 20-inch wheels. Inside, you’ll find saddle-brown leather with a rich, western-themed appearance.

The High Country comes with a 355-liter 5.3-liter V-8 engine. To conserve gas, the vehicle has a system that shuts off four-cylinders when they aren’t needed.

The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado High Country will hit the market later this year. No pricing has been released, but expect it to start around $45,000.
