Chanel Is Putting On The Ritz

Chanel is staying home this year for its Metiers d’Art catwalk show, which will take place in the Ritz Paris.

The French fashion house has revealed it will honour its roots by putting on the 2016 edition of its annual show in the iconic, newly renovated hotel this winter.

Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld chose the Ritz for its links to the house’s famous founder, Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel, who lived at the hotel for over 30 years, decorating the luxury apartment herself.

Located in the French capital’s prestigious Place Vendome, the Ritz re-opened its doors this summer after a four-year-long renovation period that saw the addition of a new “terrasse” and the reduction of rooms from 159 to 142 for a more spacious guest experience. In honour of Coco Chanel’s residence in the building, the hotel has also added the very first Chanel spa to its list of facilities.

Chanel’s Metiers d’Art show honours the craftsmanship and artistry involved in the intricacy of its fashion collections, acting as a nod to the workshops and partners involved in its work. Although the roving show appears in a different destination each year, 2016 will mark the second consecutive year that Lagerfeld has used the occasion to focus on Paris, following a 2015 collection that debuted in Rome. Titled “Paris in Rome”, the show was a love letter to both the Paris of the silver screen and that of the modern-day fashion capital.
