Broadway’s The Importance of Being Earnest Hitting Cinemas

A high-definition film version of Oscar Wilde’s farce about high-society, The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by British actor Brian Bedford, who also stars as the lead Lady Bracknell, is being screened in theaters globally June 2-28. The critically acclaimed production filmed live from the American Airlines Theatre in New York City features Tony nominee Bedford in the lead female role, up for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Play.

The film will be first screened June 2 in the US in 16 states from California to Maine. It follows internationally in theaters and performing arts centers in the UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Mexico, Malta and throughout Europe, as listed on the website: http://www.roundabouttheatre.org/broadway/theimportanceofbeingearnest/

Along with the film, a backstage tour is led by actors David Hyde Pierce (Fraser) and Alfred Molina (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) and expert Michael Hackett.

The extended run of the Tony-nominated revival co-stars Dana Ivey (Miss Prism), Santino Fontana (Algernon) and Amanda Leigh Cobb as Servant. The Tony Awards will be telecast on June 12 at 8 pm ET on CBS-TV.
