From Bergdorf Goodman’s blog:

David Hoey and his visual team spent six years collecting antique display fixtures – vintage and miniature mannequins, antique heads for hats and myriad display items touched by time – and exhibited them in our windows this July. Accenting this antique array are the photographs that accompany them. Musing that individuality is best attained through damage and decay, San Francisco-based photographer Rebecca Martinez posits that aged mannequins are “exemplars of an idealized, unobtainable, youthful perfection” that only become unique and real once they’ve passed their prime. So, in an effort to react to our revulsion to aging, Rebecca photographs mannequins in varying stages of decay to expose the fragile beauty that time creates. Through her lens, Rebecca captures a human quality that, while beautiful, reminds us of our own mortality.
