Michelin has released an early look at the 114 New York restaurants that made it into their 2012 Bib Gourmand category, a popular subsection of their guidebook that lists restaurants where meals cost $40 or less.

For frugal gourmets with sophisticated palates but shallow pockets, the iconic red book’s Bib Gourmand section offers a list of eateries where a twocourse meal and either a glass of wine or dessert clocks in at $40 (€29) or less, tax and tip not included.

The restaurants were announced ahead of the book’s release slated for October 5.

The list includes popular New York eateries like David Chang’s Momofuku restaurants; Prune, helmed by authoress and food writer du jour Gabrielle Hamilton; and Brasserie Les Halles, where TV travel host, food writer, and former executive chef Anthony Bourdain is listed as ‘chef at large.’

The Michelin Guide New York City Restaurants 2012 is available for pre-order for $18.99 (€14).Michelin inspectors also share insights from inspections via Twitter at @MichelinGuideNY. The Michelin guide is available in 23 countries.
