“Being in New York is like putting a flag on the moon,” explains a representative of the new Riu Plaza Times Square.  Earlier this year, Riu opened only its second property in the United States (the first is in Miami), and this one is right in the heart of Times Square, surrounded by famous Broadway theaters and steps from the city’s iconic plaza of billboards and advertisements in lights.   “If you’ve come for tourism, it’s the place to be.”

Devotees of Riu know it for its all-inclusive resorts worldwide, but the Riu family brand — now in its third generation since 1953 — has grown from a holiday resort company with its roots in Mallorca to 103 hotels in 18 countries.  A growing collection of city hotels is also gaining solid footing alongside its ever-popular resort experiences, and New York’s Riu Plaza Times Square marks the biggest investment yet for the company.

The Riu Plaza Times Square was all too recently a parking lot, yet now stands 29 floors high, commanding sweeping views of the city in all directions.

Its 659 rooms are divided into doubles, executives, family and junior suites and a Presidential suite, all with floor to ceiling windows to take advantage of spectacular sights and natural light.

Cozy, yet comfortable, most are decorated in Riu’s calming signature lilac color scheme, apart from suites which boast a regal burgundy pop of color.

Amenities include minibars, flat screen TVs, and wifi throughout the property.  The chic lobby is a prime spot for people watching, as is the Riu Plaza Times Square’s themed Fashion Restaurant (which boasts one 0f our favorite lunch deals to be found in the city!).

The Riu Plaza Times Square’s highly anticipated opening marks the fifth in the brand’s urban line, joining Berlin, Panama City, Guadalajara and Miami Beach.  Orlando and San Francisco are among those expected in the near future.
