Elm wood, steel and wool were modernly combined into a chair design hoping to reinterpret the way we use textiles to shape furniture. Designed as part of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Designs’ contribution to the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2013, the modern chair streches the limits on a given theme: “the new textile furniture”. A sturdy Elm wood shell was adhered to a steel frame, making it look contemporary and inviting.

Imagined by Denmark-based designer Mads Sætter-Lassen, the chair named MSL 35 relies mostly on the visual and tactile senses to draw attention. Minimalist in design, the chair explores both an aesthetic calling and a difference in the tactile nature of materials. Photographed by Kristian Touborg, the chair appears to be as promised: “As such the appearance of the chair’s shell is the result of investigating the potential of veneer for wicker work – i.e. of using a non-textile material in a textile way.” During the process much attention has been paid to the differences in the tactile nature of different materials. Sponsored by Optimera and Danskmøbeldesign.dk, this project aims to explore textiles and our perception on them.
