Daily Dream Home – L House

This modern 300 square meters dream home was designed for a young family interested in owning a residence that would adorn the hillside landscape with a bold, sustainable design. They commissioned Architects Collective to lay out a floor plan and imagine an envelope that would extend their needs, wishes and lifestyle into the structure of the house. This is how the L House was imagined – an L-shaped floor plan encompasses necessary spaces; sliding glass walls construct a seamless connection between surrounding Austrian rural landscape and quality interior details; sustainability and functionality were embedded in everyday life.

The L House in Austria’s Burgenland region challenged Architects Collective to prevent the house from having a deep impact on the environment. Natural light is harnessed with the help of floor-to-ceiling triple panel glassing that responds to the local requirement for ultra-low-energy houses, while the deep overhangs help control the temperature. The cantilevering L-shaped corner creates a covered entrance space guiding family and guests towards a two-story foyer and a courtyard. Inside, a living/dining/kitchen zone and a bedroom occupy part of the space, while the other part in between them is a reading and children’s play area. Perfect, right?
