An existing Edwardian house has been remodeled by Jackson Clements Burrows to suit a modern lifestyle and the needs of its inhabitants. Located in Melbourne, Australia, the Twin Peaks House has been altered to accommodate a family with 3 children. A large family room complete with a kitchen was designed to occupy the ground floor in the back of the house and three new bedrooms, plus a space for different activities were built right above, on the first floor.

Trying to complement the old building with new additions, architects chose to display a contrasting black brick for the newly added spaces against red brick in the old part of the house. The residence’s name was acquired after architects chose a pitched roof “expressed as “twin peaked” gable ends that aligned directly with the double valley hip roof of the existing house.” The contemporary interiors beautifully open to the outdoors, creating the base for a comfortable, enriching family life.
