Daily Dream Home: Mountford Road residence

Who says luxury must spread over hundreds of square feet? I think it’s enough to merge quality building materials with a steady builder hand and a talented team of architects and interior designers, mix in some customization and site-specific challenges and you have the perfect dream home. The Mountford Road residence is an example of how an outdated house can be transformed into a stunning contemporary residence.

Shaun Lockyer Architects re-imagined a 1950s post war home in New Farm, Brisbane, Australia, as a contemporary suite of public and private spaces adapted to the owner’s modern lifestyle. The front facade cleverly hints towards the interior space arrangement but keeps a low profile while maintaining the owner’s privacy. Adding 452 square feet to the existing 1,722, the architects re-shaped the home into a volumetric, airy and light-flooded suite of spaces. Re-organized and boasting a new kitchen, a modern dining space and a laundry, the modern home was extended and the existing spaces modified to match the new part of the home: materials compliment pre-existing brick and timber, while the deliberate restrained palette reinforces the idea of a space planed as a canvas for light and air.
