Daily Dream Home: K House

Transforming a usual home for a young couple and their children into a dream home was the challenge presented by the owners of this Sao Paulo home to architectural Studio Arthur Casas. Spreading over 566 square meters, the residence known as the K House focuses on constructing a seamless connection to the outdoors while acting as a private fortress within the urban fabric. Architects describe their propositions for an interior that would fluidize daily routine:

“The division of the space we proposed is quite simple: garage, service area and home theater in the basement, kitchen, dining and living room on the ground floor, bedrooms on the first floor. Even though we changed part of the structure, most of the openings were maintained, which brought up the idea of covering the whole surface of the house to bring unity.”

Perforated metal panels with leaf-reminiscent patterns were used to dress the house as a second skin, giving it a contemporary edge and allowing the sun to shine through. A patio brings down light into the basement, while a slit above the stairs helps flood the vertical garden with light. This all creates a private residential space that harnesses natural light for a functional, cheery collection of living spaces.
