Cadillac revealed the Elmiraj Concept, a full-size coupe that GM executives describe to be a look at the top of the range of the Cadillac brand at a private function in Carmel, California in conjunction with this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Having worked hard to restore the luster of the Cadillac crest by spending billions of dollars over the past 15 years, they are clearly testing whether or not the brand is capable of competing in the super luxury segment with Mercedes S class, BMW 7 Series and even Bentley.

Bob Ferguson, senior vice president, Global Cadillac said, “Elmiraj provides a look inside the Cadillac Studio on how we envision performance and luxury for the next generation of luxury drivers.”

Described as modern update to the classic format of a two-door grand coupe, Elmiraj offers a blend of expressive design and rear-wheel drive performance.

At 205 inches in length, the two-door Elmiraj is just an inch shorter than a Mercedes Benz S550. This long, low stance creates a dramatic appearance and pushes Cadillac’s now familiar sharp edged design theme to new proportions.

Elmiraj is powered by a 4.5-liter twin turbocharged V8 delivering an estimated 500 hp. It is essentially the Twin Turbo V6 featured in the upcoming 420-hp 2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport with two additional cylinders.

Will the Elmiraj see the light of day? Possibly in some form. We are, however, still waiting to see the manifestation of last year’s concept, the Ciel, in something closer to production trim, so I wouldn’t hold my breath.
