Travel + Leisure magazine has today released its list of the “world’s best,” an annual award based on its popular reader survey. Hotels, cities, cruise lines and more are ranked on a scale of 1-100, and scores are based on averages of responses about characteristics like quality of hotel rooms, service, and more.

We love these awards for their consumer-level insight into some of our favorite brands, properties, and destination, and are pleased to see lots of our favorites on the list.

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the highlights.

Hotels

Oberoi Udaivilas, in Udaipur, India, takes the top spot, with a score of 99.29. Montana’s Triple Creek Ranch, a glamorous camping experience for the whole family, is the top-ranked resort in the United States, coming in at #3. A number of our favorite properties made the top hotels, including Sunset Key Guest Cottages, a Luxury Collection Resort in Key West (#8), The Inn at Palmetto Bluff (#14), One & Only Palmilla (#17) and Ocean House (#19).

In terms of brands, Oberoi Hotels & Resorts takes the top spot, followed by Aman, The Peninsula and Rosewood Hotels & Resorts.

Need some relaxation? Get away to Golden Door in San Marcos, California, ranked the top destination spa.

Cities & Islands

Need to pick your next destination to visit? Japan’s Kyoto takes top honors, followed closely by our very own Charleston, South Carolina. Siem Reap, in Cambodia, is a close third, followed by perennial favorites Florence and Rome. The awards also ranked islands – the Ecuador’s Galapagos is the most beloved destination, followed by honeymoon favorites Bali and the Maldives.

Cruise Lines

Top cruise lines include Disney in the mega ship category, Crystal in the large ship category, Seabourn in the small ship category, and Viking in the river category.

Getting Here and There

It’s no surprise that Virgin America wins top honors by far in the “domestic” airline category. Singapore Airlines also sweeps the international awards by several points.
