Hermes bags have been out of the reach of many, especially the exclusive and unique editions. The latest creation from the French manufacture that went under the hammer to set the record is the Hermes 32cm Matte Geranium Porosus Crocodile & Black Togo Leather Sellier Kelly Bag with Feet. Auctioned for $125,000, it is crowned as the most valuable Kelly bag ever sold at auction.

Hermes_Kelly_most_expensive_1With its red crocodile feet firmly placed on the ground, this bag had set the bids soaring much over its original estimate of $50,000. This makes it more obvious that a Hermes bag is not just designed for shoppers and fashionistas but also for collectors as extraordinary ones mature to become the world’s most collectible bags too.

Designed by French artist, Christian Astuguevieille, the record breaking bag has been a part of the Petit H collection that began as a traveling exhibition at various Hermes stores worldwide. Originally the five feet bag sported a $60,00 price tag when designed in 2010. However it has never been used and offered in pristine condition along with Hermes dustbag and box. It is sized at 12.5″ width x 12″ height x 4″ depth.

The black and red Kelly was the top seller at Heritage Auctions’ $3.8+ million Holiday Luxury Signature Auction in Dallas. It competed with other fashionable bags from the Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Judith Leiber and the likes at the designer bag event.

Matt Rubinger, Director of Luxury Accessories at Heritage, explicates, “After setting the record for the top 10 most valuable Hermès bags sold at auction, taking the record for a Kelly bag rounds out another stellar year.” Other top highlights of the auction include a Hermès 30cm Matte Paille Nilo Crocodile Birkin Bag with Palladium Hardware that fetched $65,625 and a Hermès 30cm Shiny Blue Brighton Porosus Crocodile Birkin Bag with Palladium Hardware, that sold for $65,625.
